Doctor Recommended Supplements for Paleo/PCOS

The only prescription that went along with this list was for Metformin.  I was only put on one 500mg tab per day.

  • Myo-Inositol: 3000mg per day
  • Vitamin D3: 50,000 IU per week for 12 weeks, THEN 50,000 IU every two weeks
  • DHA 1000mg tabs: 3 per day for a total of 3000mg per day
  • Acetyl-L-Carnitine: 500mg 3 times per day
  • Probiotics-Refrigerated-25 billion CFU per day (Whole Foods)
  • Fiber: Konjac Root: 500-750mg per day

I also use Neevo DHA: It is important to get FOLATE and not folic acid in prenatals.  Folic acid is SYNTHETIC and 50% of the population has a MTHFR heterozygous mutation that inhibits the body’s ability to absorb folic acid.  Thorne prenatals also work in this case and is not prescription.

  1. Have you tried Chinese medicine and accupunture? That along with methyl folate. And methyl cobalamin supplements for mthfr. And eating paleo have helped me after 3 miscarriages. I took herb blends my accupunturist prescribed for me. One blend for during period. One midcycle. And one premenstrual. A good friend of mine also went for infertility issues and within 4 months was pregnant. Just a suggestion for you. I actually stumbled across your blog looking at recipes. Good luck on your journey!

    1. Thanks for the suggestions. Strangely enough, I have done all of the things you mentioned (including intervention for heterozygous MTHFR). I have been doing the acupuncture and herbs through a Chinese medicine practice specializing in infertility. It has been almost two years of doing that. I’m glad you found my blog and hope that you like some of the recipes. Thank you for taking the time to comment!

  2. I was brought to your blog through the recipe for cashew chicken on Facebook. Dr Rydfors is my doctor too. Went through a similar challenging IF journey. 6 failed IVF cycles with two late 1st trimester pg losses.

We ended up moving on at that point and adopting our now 10 year old daughter via an open adoption.

Infertility sucks and you have my deepest sympathy/empathy.
